CEBU CITY – A police major shot and wounded a civilian who allegedly threatened him on Friday afternoon, May 24, in Barangay Balayong, Pamplona town, Negros Oriental.
The 50-year-old police major surrendered to the Pamplona Police Station after the incident.

The police major is already retirable and is on non-duty status, said Police Lt. Stephen Polinar, information officer of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office.
Polinar said that based on investigation, the police major was attending a fiesta celebration when he and the victim crossed paths.
The victim was already drunk when he got into an altercation with the police major.
The altercation escalated when the civilian allegedly tried to stab the police major, who drew a gun and fired a shot.
The victim was brought to a hospital.
Polinar said investigators are checking if the two had previous grudges that triggered the altercation.
“We are checking if they have a history of feud or if there was a provocation. This is still under investigation. The investigators are proceeding to the hospital to get the side of the victim on the matter,” said Polinar.
The police major may face a charge for frustrated homicide, police said.
