Negros Occidental village gets P1.2-M solar-powered streetlights


BACOLOD CITY – Barangay Canlusong, the farthest village in E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental, was the recipient of a P1.2-million solar-powered streetlight project.

A total of 53 solar-powered streetlights were put up to enhance the safety of the residents at night from the barangay proper to Purok Kawayan.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS) PAyapa at MAsaganang PamayaNAn (PAMANA) program, funded the project, with the municipal government shouldering P21,000.

Leading the inauguration on Wednesday, May 22, were community development officer Dan Donald Candare and project evaluation officer Rodolfo Gomez, representing the DSWD-6 (Western Visayas) Regional Project Management Team, Councilor Reylan Gamboa Sr., who represented Mayor Marvin Malacon, and Municipal Social Welfare and Development (MSWD) head Emy Lyn Hibionada, with barangay captain Cherry Mae Marquilencia.

Rev. Fr. Christopher Entrata, parish priest of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Victorias City, Negros Occidental, blessed the project.
