The local government of Malabon City has prepared a response plan for the upcoming La Niña to ensure the safety of the city residents.

Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval led on Saturday, May 25, the contingency planning as she made sure that rescue equipment are ready to protect Malabueños during inclement weather.
We initiated preparations for change so that we wouldn't be greatly affected by storms and other calamities, and no Malabueno would suffer or be in danger. As we now anticipate the rainy season possibly brought by La Niña, you can be assured that our city government is here to help, provide advice, and implement programs for our safety. Our equipment is ready, and our personnel are prepared to ensure that every Malabueno is in good condition when the need arises),” she said.
She also urged residents to cooperate with the city government to ensure everyone’s safety in case of heavy rains.
Malabon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (MDRRMO) head Roderick Tongol said that the city government has established protocols for handling typhoons and flash floods in accordance with the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s (DILG's) Operation Listo initiative.
The initiative aims to enhance the disaster and emergency preparedness of the local government units (LGUs) through a comprehensive approach involving the national government agencies.
The city public information office said that the city government ‘s programs will collaborate with all the MDRRMO council response clusters and barangay DRRMCs to ensure preparedness and coordinated operations before and during thunderstorms and other calamities in the city.
The City Engineering Office confirmed that all 54 pumping stations near the waterways in the city are prepared to function when the river water level increases. The city has 101 floodgates to regulate the water flow and minimize the impact of heavy flooding on barangays.

Tongol added that the city government’s rescue boats are prepared for deployment in case of reports of stranded residents during heavy rains, while there are three flood sensors and a rain gauge along the Tullahan River that monitor water levels.
The city’s Command and Communication Center, equipped with high-level radio and monitoring systems, operates 24/7 to ensure immediate response to reports regarding calamities. Over 100 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras were installed in various areas to aid in monitoring.
Also, early warning sirens were installed in strategic locations, including at S1 warehouse in Barangay San Agustin, Barangay Catmon Super Health Center, Barangay Dampalit Hall, and Malabon Action Center in Barangay Potrero, to alert residents when thunderstorms are expected.

The City Environment and Natural Resources Office, along with the “Estero Rangers” from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), conducted daily declogging operations to prevent floods in waterways across the city.
The city mayor, together with the MDRRMO, organized a flood drill in Barangay Dampalit last April 19, which aimed to educate the 100 residents on disaster response and evacuation plans. They also distributed emergency and hygiene kits.

City Administrator Dr. Alexander Rosete reminds residents not to hesitate to ask help and to cooperate with the city government to avoid any harm.
“Prayoridad natin ang kaligtasan ng mga Malabueño kahit anumang panahon, tag-init man o tag-ulan. Ang ating mga paghahanda ay kailangan upang masigurong walang Malabueño ang mahihirapan o masasaktan tuwing may kalamidad. Kaya naman ating pinapayuhan ang ating mga kababayan na makipagugnayan sa amin at makipagtulungan upang makaiwas sa anumang sakunang dulot ng pagbaha (Our priority is the safety of the Malabueños regardless of the season, whether it's summer or rainy season. Preparations are necessary to ensure that no Malabueño will suffer or be harmed during calamities. That's why we advise our fellow citizens to contact us and cooperate to avoid flood-related disasters),” Rosete said.
The city government advised the public to stay vigilant
and urged them to reach out to the city's MDRRMO emergency hotlines (89216009 / 89216029/09423729891 / 09190625588) or through TXTMJS (225687 / 09176898657) for concerns and other inquiries.
