Supreme actress Lovi Poe revealed she was bullied as a newbie in showbiz, saying somebody told her that she wasn't going to make it because her skin was darker.

Lovi made the revelation during the signing of her new endorsement, SCD, at the Seda Hotel in Quezon City recently. During the event, she was welcomed by Gracee M. Angeles, the CEO of SCD Products.

“I was told I was never going to make it because I was flat-chested because my skin was darker. I started at 15. It affected me. But I gave it a few days to sulk. I will enjoy myself, do well at work, and take care of myself," the morena beauty said.

Lovi also mentioned that she once considered trying to make her skin white, but she came to embrace and be proud of her natural skin color.

She added: “I asked myself, ‘Do I have to do all these things because that is what society wants?’ Siguro I should because that's what society wants.

"One time, I remember conversing with my manager; I was stubborn, like, ‘You know what, who cares? I'll do me. If they don’t like that I'm flat-chested, I don't care.

"Gagalingan ko na lang sa ibang aspects. I may have darker skin color, so what?’ Growing up, I realized several things. Loving yourself is important. Sino pa ba ang magmamahal sa sarili mo kundi ikaw?

"And then hindi na siya naging problem for me. As long as I'm happy and I feel happy, I'm okay with that. Bigla na lang nawala siya sa isip ko," Lovi confessed. "I didn't have to prove myself to anybody else."

Lovi was also asked about the criticism that had affected her in the past. "Oh my, ang tagal na. Nakalimutan ko. Pero siguro yun nga, yung line na I was never going to make it kasi nga I didn't look like everyone one. Nag-stick talaga sa akin yung for a long time pero nawala na lang.

"Naging challenge din sa akin yun pero eventually nakalimutan ko na rin talaga. Hindi na siya naka-apekto sa akin. I just enjoyed myself. I love surrounding myself with people who have positive thoughts," she said.

On breast enhancements, Lovi said: "I'd be honest. Nag-stick din siya sa mind ko. Should I? But you know, I'm paranoid about enhancements. But I'm happy I didn't. Because now I can wear anything I want. Pero nakaka-inggit yung mga taong may side boob. Sana all. Pero yung nga. What would make you different would make you shine."

The half-sister of Sen. Grace Poe shared a piece of advice to women who have the same struggles.

“Don’t let yourself feel down, stay positive, and work to become your best. Making yourself beautiful is not about skin. You can be beautiful whatever color you are. If you take care of yourself, it will shine through," said Lovi.

Lovi married Montgomery Blencowe at Cliveden House, London, Aug. 26, 2023. The actress is in the Philippines to fulfill several showbiz commitments. Lovi and Montogomery are also Hollywood producers.
