Central Signal bet wins Mutya ng Taguig 2024

Alessandra Leanne Plantado from Barangay Central Signal was crowned Mutya ng Taguig 2024 during the coronation night on May 25. 

Plantado edged out bets from Taguig’s 36 other barangays to win the title at the ceremony held at the Taguig City University Auditorium. She also won Best in Swimwear and Long Gown during the competition.

“I think one initiative that I would like to take part is promoting our cultural heritage. Our Taguig City is mostly known in promoting our cultural heritage that aligns with my advocacy which is the cultural influence through performing art. And with that, I am sure that I am very confident that I can promote our Taguig City well,” said Plantado during the question-and-answer portion.

This year, the Taguig City government eased the rules for candidates, removing the maximum age limit and allowing women to compete regardless of their marital and parental status. 

One of the candidates this year was 70-year-old Felizmeña from Barangay Pitogo, one of the EMBO (enlisted men’s barrio) barangays. 

“The changes to the requirements sought to give hundreds of women the chance to compete and become Mutya ng Taguig. True enough, the title and the responsibilities can be held capably by women regardless of age, whether married or single, whether or not they have kids,” said Mayor Lani Cayetano. 

She added, “We also rejoice that all the barangays from EMBO sent delegates to the Mutya ng Taguig pageant, which only means that they see themselves as part of our Probinsyudad. We welcome them as Taguigueños, not only through this pageant but many more initiatives.” 

Among the candidates were a CPA-lawyer, athletes, performers, medical professionals, models and artists. 

From 37 candidates, the top 15 were announced, chosen based on pre-pageant events including evening gown and swimsuit competitions. 

The top 15 candidates competed in the swimwear and long gown competitions, and casual interview. From the 15, the top five were chosen. 

The top five candidates underwent a question-and-answer portion and last look. 

This year’s judges were beauty queen and news anchor Emma Tiglao, pageant runway coach Ian Mendajar, fashion designer Lemuel Rosos, film director Petersen Vargas, and homegrown pageant queen Katrina Llegado.

As the Mutya ng Taguig winner, Plantado will serve as the city’s ambassadress and represent Taguig in other pageants.
