'Aghon' strands hundreds of passengers in Cebu


CEBU CITY – Hundreds of passengers were stranded in various ports in Cebu due to tropical depression “Aghon.”

The Philippine Coast Guard-Central Visayas (PCG-7) on Saturday, May 25, disclosed that 671 passengers were stranded due to cancellation of sea trips.

The PCG-7 said that most of the canceled trips were in northern Cebu.

The PCG-7 said it issued a notice to mariners to cancel their trips after Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was raised over the northern part of Cebu.

The Cebu Port Authority (CPA) said trips to Southern Leyte, Leyte, Samar, Masbate, and the islands of Bantayan, Cebu and Camotes, Cebu were canceled.

As of 9 a.m. on Saturday, the CPA said there were 332 passengers who were stranded at Hagnaya Port in San Remigio town, Cebu.

Stranded passengers temporarily took shelter at the town's sports complex.
