REMINDER: There's a law that requires you to plant one tree every year
Be law-abiding citizens and eco-warriors in your localities
Did you know that in the Philippines, there is a law mandating you to plant one tree every year?
The consolidation of Senate Bill No. 3146 and House Bill No. 4330 was enacted into law in 2012 as Republic Act No. 10176, known as the “Arbor Day Act of 2012.”
This law revives the observance of Arbor Day, which was first established by Proclamation No. 30, signed by former President Manuel Roxas in 1947.
RA 10176 gives local government units (LGUs) the authority to organize "Arbor Day" as a yearly occasion for planting trees.
The law emphasizes that trees are essential to ecological stability and that the state and its inhabitants must work together to prevent the loss of natural resources and revitalize the environment through national tree planting initiatives.
Specifically, under Section 8, it states, "all able-bodied citizens of the Philippines, who are at least twelve (12) years of age, shall be required to plant one (1) tree every year."
For example, if you're a 20-year-old student, you should have planted nine trees in total.
