Many think that the Jeep Wrangler has evolved very little from its first inception. The new Jeep Wrangler 4-Door Sport proves this couldn’t be further from the truth as this vehicle continues to evolve to meet the demands of modern adventurers.

The new model was launched at the Jeep Kamp 2024 event hosted by Inchcape Philippines, distributor of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and RAM vehicles. This event was a showcase of the Jeep lifestyle, organized to demonstrate the blend of adventure and state-of-the-art automotive technology that Jeep embodies.

From city to safari

I had the unique pleasure of participating in Jeep Kamp 2024, starting the drive from Jeep Greenhills. Before heading off, a quick product presentation was held to highlight the features of the new Jeep Wrangler 4-Door Sport. Ms. Valerie Yu-Leong, Assistant Vice President for Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram at Inchcape Philippines, summarized the spirit of the event in her opening remarks. “The Jeep Kamp is our way of rediscovering the untamed spirit of adventure, of redefining what it means to be a freedom-loving Jeep enthusiast. It's about unleashing the authentic wild side of our souls, and about igniting the flames of passion for off-road mastery,” Yu-Leong said.

The journey from Greenhills, San Juan City to Cavinti, Laguna was the first real test of the new Jeep Wrangler 4-Door Sport. The drive showed off the vehicle's ability to adapt to both urban and rugged terrains, illustrating the Wrangler's reputation for reliability, durability, and now, enhanced comfort and technological integration.

Designed for urban and rural

Under the hood, the Jeep Wrangler Sport is powered by a robust 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, delivering 272-Ps and 400-Nm of torque. Its renowned 4x4 capabilities are fortified by the Selec-Trac Full Time 4WD System, Dana axles, and a suite of skid plates protecting vital components, ensuring its readiness for any challenge. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the Wrangler Sport’s road manners were. For a vehicle that made its name traversing the wilderness, the Sport was a comfortable, and more than capable, road runner. I threw it in manual mode and each gear shift was on point and each push of the throttle pedal threw in a surge of power. The twisty mountain roads of Rizal did nothing to faze the truck, and its handling was brilliant, given the fact that it’s a body-on-frame vehicle.

Upon arrival at Kaliraya SurfKamp, the presence of the Jeep Wrangler 4-Door Sport was on full display. Although subtle, the vehicle features a revamped exterior. Notable are the updated front fascia with Molded Black Front Bumper and a suite of LED lighting including Daytime Running Lamps, Front Fog Lamps, and Premium Reflector Headlamps only previously available on the Wrangler Sahara. The iconic Matte Black Jeep Badge and Wrangler Decal keeps the low-key, rugged aesthetics, complemented by 17-inch Gray All-Aluminum Wheels fitted with All-Terrain tires.

The interior of the Wrangler Sport is a blend of rugged functionality and modern luxury. The all-new 12.3-inch touchscreen, part of the Uconnect 5 system, dominates the dashboard and looks much better than the Wrangler Sahara’s unit. It offers new features like wireless Apple CarPlay, Google Android Auto, GPS Navigation, and customizable user profiles. The cabin is designed with ergonomics in mind, featuring soft-touch surfaces, contrast accent stitching, and a range of comfort amenities such as heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and multiple USB ports for enhanced device connectivity. I have no idea though, why anyone would need heated stuff in the Philippines.

Safety in the Jeep Wrangler Sport is up to par. It is equipped with Advanced Multistage Front Air Bags, Supplemental Front Seat Side Airbags, and now standard Supplemental Side Curtain Airbags. Additional safety features include Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop, Selec-Speed Control, and a ParkView Rear Back-Up Camera.
