House Speaker Martin Romualdez believes the senators will consider passing the economic Charter change (Cha-cha) measure now that they're under Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero
Romualdez was asked in an ambush interview Wednesday, May 22 on what he thought the chances of economic Cha-cha were following the recent Senate upheaval.
"I’m sure that the Senate will consider it," said the leader of the 300-plus strong House of Representatives.
"Well the economic amendments to the Constitution…we will leave that up to our friends in the Senate, dun pa naka-pending (it's pending there)," Romualdez said.
"Sa akin naman basta kung anong makakabuti sa taumbayan (As for me, whatever is good for the people), we feel that economic reforms and amendments can do that," he said.
In a follow-up interview Thursday, May 23 in Tawi-Tawi, the Speaker said he plans to meet soon with Escudero on the topic of economic revisions to the 1987 Constitution.
The House of Representatives approved on third and final reading Resolution of Both Houses (RBH) No.7 last March.
RBH No.7 was patterned after the Senate's RBH No.6, which espoused the tweaking of the existing Charter's economic provisions for the purpose of attracting more foreign direct investments (FDI).
RBH No.6 has been stuck at the subcommittee level for quite some time now.
