Mayor Honey calls out residents pretending to be solo parents for welfare payments

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan directed the barangay leaders to help the city government in explaining to their constituents the qualifications for the solo parent payout.
The mayor's directives is part of the preparation for the slated payout of the monthly cash aid for solo parents in June.
Based on a report from Manila Department of Social Welfare Chief Re Fugoso, there are some residents who falsely claim to be solo parents to receive monetary assistance.
"Maaring makalusot kayo sa amin pero may mga 'Marites' na kapitbahay kaya malalaman at malalaman din namin (You may be able to get through us but there are gossiping neighbors, so they will know and we will know too)," Fugoso warned.
She said those claiming allowances, although no longer qualified, even get angry when they are being denied of the payout.
Meanwhile, the mayor explained that solo parents include minors who are living and taking care of their children, themselves.
She said once a solo parent remarries or gets to have a live-in partner, his or her classification as a solo parent will no longer apply.
The city government appealed to those who are no longer solo parents to give their slots to those who are really supporting their children without any partner to help him or her.
Under the local government's social amelioration program, the solo parents are entitled to receive cash assistance worth P500.
