Heat index in 41 areas reached ‘danger’ level on May 23


The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the intense heat reached a "dangerous" level in 41 areas on Thursday, May 23.

PAGASA reported that Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; Aparri, Cagayan; and Virac (Synop), Catanduanes recorded the highest heat index of the day at 47 degrees Celsius (°C), followed by Mambusao, Capiz; Iloilo City, Iloilo; and Catarman, Northern Samar with 46°C.

Meanwhile, the heat index reached 45°C in Dagupan City, Pangasinan; CBSUA-Pili, Camarines Sur; Roxas City, Capiz; Dumangas, Iloilo; Guiuan, Eastern Samar; and Zamboanga City, Zamboanga Del Sur.

A heat index of 44°C was logged in Sinait, Ilocos Sur; MMSU, Batac, Ilocos Norte; Bacnotan, La Union; Infanta, Quezon; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Legazpi City, Albay; Masbate City, Masbate; La Granja, La Carlota, Negros Occidental; Catbalogan, Samar; Tacloban City, Leyte; Dipolog, Zamboanga Del Norte; and Butuan City, Agusan Del Norte.

It reached 43°C in Baler (Radar), Aurora; Casiguran, Aurora; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Aborlan, Palawan; Cuyo, Palawan; Daet, Camarines Norte; Maasin, Southern Leyte; and Surigao City, Surigao Del Norte.

The heat index also reached 42°C in Calayan, Cagayan; Iba, Zambales; CLSU Muñoz, Nueva Ecija; Cubi Pt., Subic Bay Olongapo City; Sangley Point, Cavite; Ambulong, Tanauan Batangas; Juban, Sorsogon; Davao City, Davao Del Sur; and Cotabato City, Maguindanao.
