DMW: 2 of injured in Pinoys in turbulence-hit Singapore flight in sensitive condition
Two of the Filipinos who were among those injured when a Singapore Airline flight SQ321 was hit with severe turbulence are in a sensitive medical situation as a result of the incident, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said on Thursday, May 23.
In a statement, the DMW said the Singapore-based overseas Filipino worker (OFW) suffered a neck fracture and back injuries and is already set for surgery on Thursday night.
“No word as yet on the treatment or surgery options for her back injuries. Her condition remains ‘sensitive’ but stable,” the statement read.
Another passenger, a 62-year-old male, was confined at the intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital in Bangkok after becoming unconscious.
“Doctors are monitoring his condition for further evaluation and treatment. A nephew based in Bangkok is assisting him,” the DMW said.
The department said the Singapore Airline has already committed to shoulder all the hospital expenses.
The three others, according to the DMW, are now in stable condition.
The plane came from London and was on its way to Singapore on Tuesday when it was hit by a severe turbulence. The impact inflicted injuries to some of the passengers.
The plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Thailand.
