Teachers' group supports full return of old school calendar
The Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) on Wednesday, May 22, supported President Marcos' decision to return to the traditional school calendar for next year.

This was after the President directed Vice President Sara Duterte, who heads the Department of Education (DepEd) to return to the standard school calendar following their meeting at the Malacañan Palace.
This means that the start of classes next school year will be on July 29, 2024 and will end on April 15, 2025 for the school year 2024-2025.
Meanwhile, the classes for the school year 2025-2026 will end on March 31, 2026.

“Sa wakas ay nagkaroon na ng pinal na petsa ng pagbubukas at pagsasara ng school year 2024-2025. (Finally, the opening and closing dates for the 2024-2025 school year have finally been finalized),” TDC said in a statement.
Although the group highlighted that it diverges slightly from their recommended closing date of April 11, it is still close enough to ensure that students do not have to attend classes on Saturdays beyond that period because the traditional 180 days will be over.
TDC also stressed that this is a “necessary step” in the right direction.
The Malacañang added that the decision to revert to the old school calendar was prompted by the extreme heat amid the El Niño phenomenon, causing schools to suspend classes several times since April this year.
