Power firm backs Iloilo prov'l gov't drive vs malnutrition

ILOILO CITY – Power distributor MORE Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power) supports the fight against malnutrition in Iloilo province where it is set to expand its services.

The Mingo Nutrition Program (MNP) of the Iloilo provincial government and the Negrense Volunteers for Change Foundation Inc. was launched in San Miguel town this week.

“We are more than happy to extend our support to the children-beneficiaries in San Miguel. Our fervent hope is that, after one year, we witness a transformation in these children – healthier and more energetic – as a direct impact of this program,” said MORE Power President and CEO Roel Castro.

MORE Power is funding a year-long feeding program for children aged six months to five-years-old.

There are 88 beneficiaries who were provided with food made of rice, mongo (mung beans), and malunggay (moringa).

Former Senate President Franklin Drilon, an Ilonggo, lauded the MNP.

“With minimal funding from the national government, local government units have to find ways to address the issue by partnering with the private sector and non-governmental organizations,” said Drilon.

According to Mayor Marina Luz Gorriceta, the MNP can help address the severity of malnutrition in San Miguel.

Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon, chief of the Iloilo Provincial Health Office, said the public-private partnership (PPP) is a collective effort to reduce malnutrition in the province.
