Poe gets Senate finance committee; Angara to head justice, human rights panel

Senator Grace Poe will now head the Senate Committee on Finance, while Sen. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara will now lead the Committee on Justice and Human Rights. 

 

This, after Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero took the helm of the Senate leadership last Monday, May 20, triggering changes in the chairmanship of some key committees in the upper chamber.

 

Sen. Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri will now head the Senate Committee on Economic Affairs, originally handled by Sen. Mark Villar. 

 

Mark Villar, on the other hand, will lead the Committee on Government Corporations and Public Enterprises, which Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano had occupied.

 

Alan Cayetano will also lead the Committee on Trade and Industry originally handled by Mark Villar. 

 

Meanwhile, Sen. Pia Cayetano has taken the Committee on Energy from Sen. Raffy Tulfo. 

 

Alan Cayetano has also taken the chairmanship of the Committee on Higher, Technical and Vocational Education, which Escudero handled.

 

Sen. Maria Lourdes Nancy Binay, who gave up the Committee on Accounts, will now head the Sustainable Development Goals Committee. 

 

Sen. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito, on the other hand, was reelected to head the Senate Committee on Local Government. 

 

Meanwhile, Sen. Joel Villanueva will assume chairmanship of the Senate Committee on Labor, Employment and Human Resources, while Sen. Raffy Tulfo will now head the Committee on Public Services. 

 

Sen. Manuel “Lito” Lapid will now head the Committee on Tourism, while Sen. Imee Marcos will now head the Committee on Urban Planning, Housing and Resettlement.

 

Senators Loren Legarda and Sherwin Gatchalian, on the other hand, retained chairmanship of their respective committees, which are the Committee on Culture and Arts and the Ways and Means Committee.
