PAGASA not discounting possibility of cyclone forming in next few days
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is currently monitoring a cloud cluster east of Mindanao, as it has the potential to develop into a low pressure area (LPA) or even a tropical cyclone in the coming days.
During its public weather forecast on Wednesday, May 22, PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said the LPA may develop either within the day or by Thursday, May 23.
It may also enter the Philippine area of responsibility during this period.
He added that the potential LPA may bring rains, particularly over the eastern sections of Visayas and the Bicol Region towards the weekend.
If it develops into a tropical depression, PAGASA will assign it the local name “Aghon.”
Badrina also emphasized that since the cloud cluster is still far, there may still be changes in the weather scenario.
In the next 24 hours, the easterlies, or warm winds blowing from the east, will still be the dominant weather system that may bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms across the archipelago.
