CEBU CITY – The province of Bohol has been placed under a state of calamity due to the extreme heat.

Gov. Aris Aumentado on Wednesday, May 22, confirmed that the Sangguniang Panlalawigan has approved a resolution that sought a declaration of a state of calamity in the province due to the ill-effects of El Niño phenomenon.
The declaration of state of calamity was based on the recommendation of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC).
Prior to the declaration, Provincial Administrator Asteria Caberte presided over an emergency meeting with PDRRMC officials where the damage caused by the extremely high index was discussed.
According to Provincial Agriculturist Dr. Larry Pamugas, damage to agriculture and fisheries has already reached P420,842,864.
Total crop damage in 36 of the 48 local government units in Bohol reached P419,653,670.52.
Agricultural damage was reported in the towns of Dauis, Baclayon, Albur, Corella, Sikatuna, Sevilla, Loboc, Dimiao, Valencia, Garcia Hernandez, Jagna, Duero, Guindulman, Candijay, Mabini, Alicia;
Pilar, Sierra Bullones, Carmen, Balilihan, Antequera, Maribojoc, Loon, Calape, Catigbian, Tubigon, San Isidro, Clarin, Sagbayan, Danao, Dagohoy, San Miguel, Trinidad, Getafe, Bien Unido, Ubay, and Carlos P. Garcia.
The fisheries sector in nine towns incurred a damage of P756,900. In livestock, P433,294 damage was reported in seven towns.
With the declaration of calamity, procurement can be processed with urgency to ensure that interventions are in place especially for affected farmers. LGUs can also mobilize their respective 30 percent Quick Response Fund.
