Angono LGU rations potable water to residents

The Angono, Rizal municipal government has started distributing potable water to households with senior citizens, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities due to turbid water quality and service interruption.

The office of Mayor Jeri Mae Calderon said that the office of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office has been distributing water to the intended beneficiaries since the flushing activities of Manila Water on May 19.

Several residents have sought the intervention of the local government since May 19 after they noticed that the tap water from their faucets have been releasing light brown to yellowish water.

In its advisory post on May 20, Manila Water said it had dispatched water tankers to distribute potable water to various locations in Angono, Binangonan, Taytay and Cardona as part of the measures to minimize the effect of the water service interruption in four localities in the province following the east zone concessionaire’s flushing activities at the Cardona Water Treatment Facility from May 19 to 21.

As of 8 p.m., some residents in Angono claimed that the water from their tap had become clearer.

On  May 20, the office of Mayor Calderon dispatched teams from the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office and Sanitation Unit of the Municipal Health Office to collect water samples from various locations. The samples were then sent to the Shared Service Facility for Food Testing Laboratory at the University of Rizal System-Morong Campus for potability testing.

Manila Water conducted flushing activity at the Cardona Water Treatment Plant from May 19 to 21 resulting in the loss of water service in the four municipalities of Rizal Province.
