The House of Representatives had nothing to do with the decision to replace erstwhile Senate President Juan Miguel "Migz" Zubiri.
House Deputy Majority Leader Zamboanga City 2nd district Rep. Mannix Dalipe made this clarification Tuesday, May 21 even as Congress continued to shower newly-installed Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero with congratulatory messages.
"Wala po sa amin ang desisyon na palitan siya. Ang desisyon po nasa bawat isang senador. (We don't hold the decision to replace him. It was with each and every senator)," Dalipe said of his fellow Mindanaoan, Zubiri.
"Each and every senator with his own independent mind has come up with a decision on how to move things in the Senate and that’s my take on why they did such action...because probably they would also want things moving in the Senate," said the House official.
Dalipe was seemingly alluding to the glut of pending measures in the 24-member Senate--measures that the 300-plus strong House has already approved on third and final reading.
"Right now we still have about 736 measures which we are waiting for Senate action," Dalipe said.
During Senate plenary session Monday, May 20, Zubiri addressed his colleagues, enumerated his achievements for the past two years, and announced his resignation as Senate President. Escudeo, a Bicolano, was elected as his successor shortly after
While he was in no way ousted from his lofty post, Zubiri was informed earlier that day that he no longer enjoyed the support of the majority of his senator-colleagues, reports said.
