The story behind ‘Hindi ko po alam your honors’, according to Mayor Guo

As netizens poke fun at her answers in the Senate inquiry through memes on social media, Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo finally broke her silence on why she was evasive on questions about her past.

In a statement posted on her Facebook account, Guo admitted that she is a love child as a result of a relationship between her father and the family househelp.

“Alang-alang sa aking mga kababayan na nagtitiwala at nagmamahal sa akin ay buong tapang ko pong sasabihin na ako po’y isang LOVE CHILD ng mahal kong ama sa aming kasambahay (For the sake of our kababayan who trust and love me, I admit that I am a love child of my father and their house help,” the statement read.

Guo also revealed that she was abandoned by her mother when she was still a child and she was raised inside the hog-raising farm of her father in what appears to be an attempt to hide her from the public.

This is the reason, according to her, why she could not recall much of her childhood memories.

“Totoo po ang sinabi ko sa Senado na home tutoring lang po ang edukasyon ko. Na wala akong papel o diploma ng isang pormal na edukasyon kahit ano mang baitang. At totoo pong nalaman ko na lamang ang pangalan ng aking mother ng maiparehistro ang aking kapanganakan noong ako’y isang tinedyer na (I was telling the truth at the Senate when I said that my education was through home tutoring. And it is also true that I only learned of my mother’s name after  I was registered when I was already a teenager),’ said Guo in the statement.

During the Senate probe, some of the senators raised doubts that she did not know much of her childhood, and that her statements did not match the documents that the Senate obtained about her.

Her evasive answers, along with the documents that the Senate obtained, raised suspicions that she is a spy connected with the raided Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) in Bamban town.

The controversial mayor said all the personal questions raised during the Senate inquiry were traumatic as they all brought back the sad memories of her childhood.

And that trauma, along with her attempt to protect her 70-year old father, was the reason behind her oft-quoted line on social media meme “hindi ko po alam your honors” (I do not know your honors), according to Guo.

The suspicion that she is connected to POGO stemmed from the report that an electric bill and a car registered under her name were recovered inside the POGO establishment.

On Monday, May 20, Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos, Jr. tasked the National Police Commission (Napolcom) to initiate the proceedings to strip Guo of control and supervision over the local police force.

In an earlier statement, Abalos said the initial investigation they conducted on Guo’s alleged POGO link revealed “troubling findings of serious illegal acts which may have severe legal implications.”

But Guo denied the allegations that she is a spy and connected with POGO, saying that as far as she knows, the raided POGO had secured a permit with the Philippine Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) and that the agency held an office inside to regulate its operation.
