Police Staff Sgt. Ronald Javier, traffic investigator of the Bago City Police Station, said that a 39-year-old businessman reportedly lost control over a car and hit a parked motorcycle.
Instead of stopping, he continued driving until he hit another motorcycle and dragged another motorcycle parked on the roadside.
Javier said the victim was waiting for his 20-year-old cousin and 17-year-old friend when he was rammed by the allegedly speeding car.
The victim was declared dead in a hospital while her companions sustained minor injuries.
The car driver fled and brief chase ensued. However, they failed to arrest him.
Javier said the car was recovered the following day through a Global Positioning System (GPS) attached to the vehicle which had been rented by the driver for about three days at the time of the incident.
The driver surrendered to the police and said that he dozed off, resulting in the accident. He will be released from police custody after the 18-hour reglementary detention.
Both parties had initial discussions and the businessman assured assistance to the families of the victims. The families of the victims have yet to decide whether to pursue the filing of case.
