Feisty Taguig solon on 'gentleman's agreement' architects: 'Jail them!'

Taguig City 2nd district Rep. Amparo Maria “Pammy” Zamora didn't hold back when asked what should be done to the architects of the Philippines-China "gentleman’s agreement" that reportedly involves not re-supplying the grounded BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal.

“Pagka talaga natukoy na natin kung sino talaga ‘yung behind, ‘yung mga taong behind this so-called gentleman's agreement (Once we determine the people behind this, the people behind this so-called gentleman's agreement), we should hold all of them accountable, we should put them to jail,” she said in a press conference Monday, May 20, at the House of Representatives.

“For me, napakahalagang ipakulong natin sila (it's important for us to jail them),” Zamora underscored.

Incidentally, the Committee on National Defense and Special Committee on West Philippine Sea began its inquiry on this supposed secret pact between former president Rodrigo Duterte and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

BRP Sierra Madre serves as the Philippines' outpost in Ayungin, which is situated in the WPS.

Asian power China is has a claim over Ayungjn and practically the entire South China Sea. A July 2016 arbitration court ruling has invalidated this expansive claim.

House members were disappointed Monday over the absence of former Duterte administration officials Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon and Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana at the joint panel hearing.
