PhilHealth, in a statement issued April 29, stressed the need for vigilance during the hot and dry season --- particularly highlighting the heightened risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke and heat exhaustion.

Citing the heat index classifications of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), PhilHealth noted that temperatures ranging from 33 to 41 degrees Celsius warrant "extreme caution" while those ranging from 42 to 51 degrees Celsius are deemed "dangerous."

PhilHealth Chief Emmanuel R. Ledesma Jr. emphasized the severity of heat stroke as a medical emergency and reassured members that PhilHealth extends support for such cases.

"If members or their dependents require admission to any PhilHealth-accredited health facilities due to heat stroke or heat exhaustion, PhilHealth provides a benefit package amounting to P8,450," Ledesma said.

He urged the public to adopt precautionary measures to mitigate the risks associated with extreme heat exposure.

These include staying hydrated by consuming ample water, minimizing exposure to high temperatures, wearing lightweight and breathable clothing, and seeking refuge in shaded or air-conditioned areas when necessary.

Additionally, PhilHealth encouraged individuals to take advantage of the Konsulta or Konsultasyong Sulit package, which offers free consultations and check-ups.

"At the first signs of heat exhaustion symptoms such as fatigue, dizziness, headache, vomiting, and light-headedness, seeking medical attention is crucial," Ledesma said.

He further explained that PhilHealth members can register with a Konsulta Provider of their choice to access primary care services, including laboratory tests and medication for various health conditions.

PhilHealth also highlighted the importance of prioritizing safety and well-being, urging the public to remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding their health during this period.
