Heat index in 39 areas may reach ‘danger’ levels on May 2


The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said 39 areas in the country may experience “dangerous” heat indices on Thursday,  May 2.

PAGASA said a heat index of 48 degrees Celsius (°C) may be experienced in Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) station in Pili, Camarines Sur, followed by a heat index of 47°C in Dagupan City, Pangasinan. 

A heat index of 46°C may be felt in Tacloban City, Leyte, while a heat index of 45°C may be recorded in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte. 

In Bacnotan, La Union; Cubi Pt., Subic Bay, Olongapo; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Aborlan, Palawan; Roxas City, Capiz; Dumangas, Iloilo; Iloilo City, Iloilo; and Catarman, Northern Samar may have a heat index of 44°C. 

A heat index of 43°C may also be expected in Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City; Aparri, Cagayan; Iba, Zambales; Casiguran, Aurora; Coron, Palawan; San Jose,  Occidental Mindoro; Legazpi City, Albay; Virac, Catanduanes; and La Granja, La Carlota; Negros Occidental. 

In Science Garden in Quezon City; Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) in Batac, Ilocos Norte; Isabela State University (ISU) in Echague, Isabela; Clark Airport, Pampanga; Central Luzon State University (CLSU) in Muñoz, Nueva Ecija; Baler, Aurora; Sangley Point, Cavite; Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas; Infanta, Quezon; Alabat, Quezon; Calapan, Oriental Mindoro; Masbate City, Masbate; Mambusao, Capiz; Catbalogan, Samar; Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte; and Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur, a heat index of 42°C may be felt.
