Heart Evangelista graces the runway wearing Schiaparelli’s lobster skirt

The skirt is a nod to Elsa Schiaparelli’s couture collection in 1973

When it comes to major style moments, trust that Heart Evangelista can deliver. During her debut as the newest intimate wear ambassador of Avon Philippines, the actress walked down the brand’s runway looking like a goddess in white. She styled the brand’s undergarments with a mesh top created by Filipino fashion designer Neric Beltran and the easily recognizable lobster skirt courtesy of Paris-based fashion house Schiaparelli.

Straight from the luxury brand’s spring-summer 2024 ready-to-wear collection, the lobster skirt is a way for now-creative director Daniel Roseberry to pay homage to the house’s founder Elsa Schiaparelli. The skirt featured a fully gathered ecru jersey with a 3D lobster completing the design.

“This crustacean with its thinly veiled sexual symbolism again inspired Daniel Roseberry a few decades later, who used the lobster pattern on an ecru jersey skirt decorated with a tonal 3D lobster embroidery on the front, and on a handmade gold ceramic necklace,” the brand posted on its website.

The lobster was a motif first seen in the brand’s Haute Couture Summer 1937 collection, with surrealist artist Salvador Dali painting a huge lobster in one of Elsa’s dresses. It was also best remembered as a dress famously worn by Wallis Simpson, wife of the Duke of Windsor.

Daniel’s lobster skirt has been the talk of the international fashion scene in the past weeks with Hollywood actress Zendaya wearing it during the press tour for the movie “Dune: Part Two.” Before taking it to the runway, Heart first showcased the piece on social media naming it “Angie.”
