DSWD invites college students to apply for gov't internship

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will accept applications for the Government Internship Program (GIP) from May 8 to 10, Assistant Secretary for Disaster Response Management Group and spokesperson Irene Dumlao said on Thursday, May 2.

Dumlao said the GIP is an integral part of the Philippine government's "Kabataan 2000" program, which provides young people with invaluable opportunities to gain hands-on experience in various government agencies.

She said 75 slots will be available for each DSWD-Field Office, with 35 slots available at the DSWD Central Office in Batasan, Quezon City.

The GIP application is open to college students aged 18 to 25, preferably in their third or fourth year.

To be eligible for the program, the applicant's family's monthly income should not exceed the poverty threshold of P13,797.

Dumlao said selected GIP applicants will receive a stipend equal to 75 percent of the current regional wage rate in exchange for 30 working days of service.

“GIP participants assigned to the DSWD Central Office will engage in tasks such as encoding, report writing, and assisting in the implementation of key programs,” she added.

“Those stationed at field offices will support their respective local government units with similar responsibilities," she said.
