Scattered rains to prevail in extreme N. Luzon; isolated showers elsewhere
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday, May 19, said the shear line may continue to affect extreme northern Luzon, while easterlies may prevail over the rest of the country.
Batanes and Babuyan Islands will have cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms due to the shear line, a weather system formed by the collision of cold and warm air.
PAGASA warned of flash floods or landslides due to occasional moderate to heavy rains.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms because of the prevalence of warm winds from the Pacific Ocean known as the “easterlies.”
The public is also warned of flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms.
PAGASA said severe thunderstorms usually occur in the afternoon or evening and last up to two hours.
They are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusts of wind, and sometimes hail.
