QCPD arrests carnapping suspect, two others for anti-fencing law
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) successfully recovered a reported stolen car and arrested one of the two suspects during the operation conducted in Mandaluyong City.
QCPD identified the arrested suspect as Ruel Sacro, 33, a resident of Santa Cruz, Manila.
Sacro was arrested on Friday, May 17, following the operation conducted by the QCPD-District Anti-Carnapping Unit (DACU) after receiving his whereabouts from an informant.
Before his arrest, police said that the car's owner reported the suspect and his still-at-large cohort, John Michael Juan, after they failed to return the victim's vehicle that they rented.
According to the victim, they received a message from Juan about planning on renting their vehicle on Tuesday, May 14.
On Tuesday, the victim immediately brought the car near Mater Carmeli School, Sacred Heart Village, along Quirino Highway, Barangay Pasong Putik in Quezon City.
The victim said that instead of meeting Juan, it was Sacro who received the vehicle and signed a contract, stating that it would be returned the following day.
On May 15, Sacro failed to return the vehicle, prompting the victim to check the Global Positioning System (GPS) installed on their cell phones connected to the stolen vehicle.
They discovered that the GPS had been disabled and was offline, causing them to contact the suspects, but they were already unattended.
They immediately reported the incident to personnel of DACU, who immediately conducted an investigation.
During their investigation, they received information from a confidential informant that the stolen vehicle had been spotted in Mandaluyong City.
They immediately proceeded to Mandaluyong and coordinated with the Eastern Police District (EPD), resulting in Sacro's arrest and the recovery of one Toyota Avanza unit.
Police said that Sacro and Juan will be charged for violations of R.A. 10883, or the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016.
Police added that they also arrested two other suspects, Mark Concepcion Servilla and Felisado Salonga, for violation of P.D. 1612, or the Anti-Fencing Law, before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
