Angel Otom thrived at the Citi Para Swimming World Series 2024 in Singapore recently after scooping one gold and one silver medal.

The triple gold medalist at last year’s ASEAN Para Games in Cambodia, who was born without arms, first took a huge splash in the women’s 50-meter butterfly Class S2-S7 event by clocking 46.39 seconds for the silver medal on Friday, May 17.

She finished behind Japanese An Nishida, who clinched the gold with a time of 37.37sec.

Not to be outdone, the Olongapo native returned to the pool more determined this time and went on to capture the gold medal in the women’s 50m backstroke Class S1-S5 with a time of 44.72sec.

The tournament serves as a training ground for Otom for her upcoming maiden stint at the 2024 Paris Paralympics scheduled on Aug. 28 to Sept. 8.

She and Ernie Gawilan earned tickets through the Standard Slot Qualification Allocation Method where a National Paralympic Committee is given one male and one female slot to the Paralympics based on their respective world rankings.
