Malabon city gov’t holds ‘Grand Sagalahan 2024’, participants wear local designs


The city government of Malabon on Saturday, May 18, held its "Grand Sagalahan 2024, participants wore gowns by Malabueño designers.

The designs of barong and Filipiniana were worn by the 42 candidates of the “Ginoo and Binibining Malabon 2024”  which symbolizes the history and identity of the Filipinos, it also promoted the culture, arts, creativity, and unity in the city.

Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval and Philippine Red Cross (PRC)- Malabon Chapter Chairman Ricky Sandoval, City Administrator Dr. Alexander Rosete, city councilors, and department heads led the grand parade.

The city mayor was joined by television actor Paulo Avelino, while television actress Kim Domingo joined Representative Ricky Sandoval as his muse.

The city’s public information office said that the candidates walked through the streets of Barangay San Agustin, Gen. Luna Street, and reached the Diocesan Shrine and Parish of Immaculate Conception in Barangay Concepcion, where they offered flowers to the image of the Virgin Mary.

Sandoval emphasized that the city government supported the arts and culture initiatives that promoted the city's identity.

“Sa ating Sagalahan 2024, ating ipinapakita ang pagpapahalaga sa pagkakaisa, at pakikipagkapwa ng mga Malabueno sa bawat isa tungo sa patuloy na pag-unlad, ang ating pag-ahon. Dito sa Malabon ating sinusuportahan ang sining at kultura na siyang nagsusulong sa ating pagiging isang bayang malikhain at nagtutulungan. Ating ipagdiwang ang ating 425th Foundation Day at ipagmalaki ang ating tradisyon, kultura, at singing, at palakasin ang magandang pakikipag-ugnayan sa bawat Malabueño (In our Sagalahan 2024, we demonstrate the value of unity and camaraderie among the Malabueno people towards continuous progress and recovery. Here in Malabon, we support the arts and culture that promote our identity as a creative and cooperative community. Let us celebrate our 425th Foundation Day, take pride in our traditions, culture, and arts, and strengthen the bonds among every Malabueno),” she said.

Meanwhile, the City’s Administrator Dr. Alexander Rosete highlighted that the event was not only a parade, but it symbolized the unity of the citizens.

“Tampok sa ating Grand Sagalahan ang magandang ugnayan ng Bawat Malabueño, kasama na ang ating tradisyon. Ito ay hindi lang basta parada dahil ito ay sumisimbolo sa pagkakaisa ng bawat mamamayan. Ito ay bahagi ng ating selebrasyon sa Tambobong kung saan ating ipinagmamalaki ang kultura, produkto, at mga paniniwala na nagpapatunay sa pagkakaroon natin ng dugong Malabueño, na nagtutulungan para sa ating pag-ahon (Our Grand Sagalahan highlights the strong connection among all Malabueños, embracing our traditions. This is not just a parade; it symbolizes the unity of every citizen. It is part of our celebration in Tambobong, where we take pride in our culture, products, and beliefs, demonstrating our Malabueño heritage and our collaborative efforts towards progress),” he said.

Moreover, In celebration of the 425th Malabon Foundation Day, the grand coronation night for the new “Ginoo at Binibining Malabon 2024” will be held at the Malabon Sports Complex, on Tuesday, May 21.
