CATARMAN, Northern Samar – The municipality of Lope de Vega emerged victorious among 23 contingents in the 2nd Ibabao Festival 2024 Float Parade commencing the 59th founding anniversary of Northern Samar on Sunday, May 19.

Lope de Vega bagged the P350,000 top prize, with San Roque winning second and P250,000, and Pambujan third and pocketing P150,000.
A crowd of over 18,000 witnessed the procession of 23 floats representing various municipalities in the province.
Each float showcased the unique history, culture, tourist attractions, products, and livelihood of their municipalities.
Vice Gov. Clarence Dato said flight bookings have surged in recent weeks and announced plans to increase flights in June and July to accommodate the expected rise in tourist arrivals.
"We asked the LGUs to submit their tourism development plans to harmonize with the one in the province. We are also looking into how we can help different types of tourists for them to enjoy their stay here in Northern Samar," he added.
He disclosed that in response to the growing tourism interest, discussions are underway regarding the potential establishment of an airport in Pambujan to cater to the increasing demand.
A team from Aboitiz InfraCapital is studying the proposed airport site in Pambujan to assess its suitability for future tourism and economic activities.
Josette Doctor, provincial tourism officer, said the province seeks to attract local and international tourists.
She said local government units is strongly committed to support tourism, emphasizing the integration of tourism with agriculture and environmental conservation efforts.
The municipality of San Jose topped last year’s 1st Ibabao Festival Float Parade which set the stage for the continued success and growth of the festival.
