Kabayan Party-list Rep. Ron Salo highlighted the role transnational education in linking up diverse educational systems and cultures during a recent international forum in Makati City.
"Transnational education not only bridges educational systems but also cultures, making it a cornerstone for a better-informed and more interconnected world," Salo said in his speech at the Australian Transnational Education (TNE) Mission to the Philippines held last May 14.
This espouses enhanced global understanding and cooperation, says the veteran legislator.
Salo discussed the key features of Republic Act (RA) No. 11448 or the Transnational Higher Education Law--a law he principally authored.
Enacted in 2018, this legislation was envisioned to transform higher education in the country by integrating international educational standards within Filipino institutions.
The TNE mission was designed to equip participants with a thorough understanding of the regulatory framework, policies, and best practices for establishing TNE partnerships with higher education and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions in the Philippines.
The mission also intended to provide insights into the Philippine Government’s educational and skills agenda, and to facilitate business matching between Philippine and Australian educational institutions.
Organized by the Australian Embassy in the Philippines, the event was graced by Australian Ambassador Her Excellency HK Yu, and other Australian dignitaries including Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) CEO Mr. Xavier Simonet.
Ambassador Yu expressed optimism for ongoing educational collaborations between the Philippines and Australia, anticipating significant benefits for students and institutions alike.
"A strong education system is fundamental to personal and national achievement. We must continue to forge pathways that not only raise educational standards but are also inclusive, particularly for the underprivileged,” Salo concluded.
