Negros Occidental provincial gov't awards P1.5 M in cash incentives to student-athletes
BACOLOD CITY – The provincial government of Negros Occidental recently turned over P1.5 million in cash incentives to student-athletes who bagged medals and represented the host province in the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet 2024.

STUDENT-athletes recently received P1.5 million in cash incentives from Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall in Bacolod City for winning medals in this year’s Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet. (Capitol PIO)
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson led the distribution of the cash incentives at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall here.
Gold medalists received P1,500 each, while silver and bronze medalists got P1,000 and P700 each, respectively.
In the elementary division, the province won 64 gold, 64 silver, and 49 bronze medals and pocketed 88 gold, 86 silver, and 73 bronze medals in the secondary division.
Their coaches, assistant coaches, chaperones, and trainers also received cash incentives.
Lacson, in his message, said the incentives for the athletes are symbols of appreciation and must not be the reason why they compete.
“Beyond monetary rewards, sports competitions offer a platform to showcase your skills. Whether it’s winning a championship or simply performing your best, these goals provide motivation and purpose that you need to excel both in life and sports,” the governor said.
The province ended up first runner-up in the WVRAA.
“To those who will represent Negros Occidental and Western Visayas in the upcoming Palarong Pambansa, carry with you the same determination and passion or even greater than what led you to victory in WVRAA,” Lacson said.
This year’s Palarong Pambansa will be held in Cebu City from July 6 to 17.
