Manila 6th district Rep. Bienvenido “Benny” Abante Jr. has urged President Marcos to include legal experts and magistrates in human rights "super body" that it will create.
But Abante was overall pleased with Malacañang's move, being the chairman of the House Committee on Human Rights.
"I commend the president for creating such superbody," Abante said during a recent press conference in the House of Representatives.
"We're also suggesting to the President kung meron tayong mga (that if there are) legal luminaries, perhaps members of the judicial branch of the government to be included among those who will compose the Human rights superbody," he said.
The former House deputy speaker adds that he hopes the Palace-created super body would be a fair one.
"Ang gusto ko lang sabihin sa ating mga mamamayan ay (What I want to tell the people is) hopefully this super body…will be more independent, rather than maging bias in a way,
Critics of the previous administration of former president Rodrigo Duterte claimed that there were many human rights violations during that period.
Duterte has emerged as a vocal critic of the Marcos administration.
