SK chair killed in motorcycle crash in Ilocos Sur

SANTA CRUZ, Ilocos Sur – A Sangguniang Kabataan chairman died and a construction worker was injured in a collision among three motorcycles on the national highway in Barangay Sidaoen here before dawn on Friday, May 17.

Police identified the victim as Jhonnel M. Cortez, 23, SK chairman of Barangay Sidaoen.

Investigation said Cortez lost control of his motorcycle due to uneven asphalt surface and collided with a motorcycle driven by Ruel H. Hagacer, 35, a construction worker from Barangay San Tiburcio, Salcedo, Ilocos Sur.

Cortez’s motorcycle also collided with another motorcycle driven by Some U. Gonzales, 42, a farmer from Barangay Lalong here.

Cortez and Hagacer sustained serious injuries while Gonzales was unhurt.

Police took the injured to a hospital where Cortez was declared dead on arrival.
