BACOLOD CITY – Enhance the conduct of investigation.
WANKY (Glazyl Masculino)
This was the directive of Police Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky, director of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Western Visayas, to Police Col. Rainerio de Chavez, Negros Occidental police director, on the recent killings claimed by the New People’s Army (NPA) in the province.
Wanky, in a media interview after he talked to personnel of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) during his visit here on Friday, May 17, said that although the NPA reportedly admitted the murder of eight civilians, it is just one angle that police should consider.
“This might just be their propaganda to show that they’re still relevant, that they could still retaliate and do atrocities despite the series of military operations against them,” he added.
Wanky said that investigation will still push through as he urged the provincial police force to investigate the incidents thoroughly.
“Look for other angles and do not easily jump into conclusions,” Wanky said.
Since April, eight civilians accused of being military assets have been killed by the NPA in the towns of Calatrava, Binalbagan, La Castellana, and Moises Padilla, and the cities of Kabankalan and Sipalay.
The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) said that they will also investigate these incidents.
