ILOILO CITY – The Army 3rd Infantry Division (ID) rejected the call to abolish the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).

SISON
It agreed with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. that NTF-ELCAC helped improve peace and order in the country.
“We thank the President for this assertion as ELCAC has been instrumental in significantly improving the peace and security situation in the country, particularly in Western and Central Visayas,” said Major Gen. Marion Sison, 3rd ID commander.
“Through ELCAC, various infrastructure development and quick impact projects have been realized, making Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs) accessible for various socio-economic activities and opportunities,” added Sison.
The 3rd ID reiterated that ELCAC is an effective tool in ending communist insurgency in majority of the Visayas.
It said the ELCAC brings together government agencies, local government units (LGUs), and other sectors in bringing development, which addresses the root causes of communist insurgency.
“The achievements in peace and development by the 3rd ID since the implementation of NTF-ELCAC in 2018 underscore its effectiveness,” said Sison.
“We wholeheartedly support the President's stance and are committed to collaborating with other NTF-ELCAC member agencies, governmental bodies, LGUs, stakeholders, and the entire Visayan community to realize our collective goal of establishing a state of stable internal peace and security in Western and Central Visayas,” added Sison.
The call to abolish the ELCAC came following the Supreme Court’s ruling that red-tagging poses a danger to lives, liberty, and security.
