Yvette Tan, one of the Philippines' acclaimed horror writers, won 3rd place with her short story 'Horror Vacui' at the Nick Joaquin Literary Awards 2024

Award-winning writer and former Manila Bulletin Agriculture magazine editor Yvette Tan, one of the Philippines' acclaimed horror writers, won 3rd place with her short story "Horror Vacui" at the Nick Joaquin Literary Awards 2024.

Yvette co-hosted “Trese After Dark,” the behind-the-scenes companion to the Netflix hit anime “Trese.” She was also the writer of the horror film "Ilawod" (2017), starring Ian Veneracion. Additionally, she served as a creative consultant for a Filipino game inspired by the country’s mythical creatures, and her collection "Seek Ye Whore" has been translated into Spanish, Czech, and Hungarian.

"Thank you very much to the NJLA, the Philippines Graphic Reader, Ma’am Marra Lanot, the judges, and everyone else involved," Yvette said in her Instagram post.

The Nick Joaquin Literary Awards is named after the late National Artist for Literature and former Philippines Graphic editor-in-chief. The NJLA is hosted by the magazine Philippines Graphic.

The NJLA gives tribute to the outstanding works of some 82 short fictionists and poets whose works were published in the Philippines Graphic Reader, the companion literary magazine of the Philippines Graphic.

The Graphic Reader is the only monthly magazine in the country today that is completely devoted to publishing short stories and poems written in English by budding and veteran Filipino writers and poets.
