The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has acknowledged the Department of Finance's (DOF) role in achieving higher tax collections and executing successful enforcement operations.
In a Facebook post, BIR Commissioner Romeo “Jun” Lumagui Jr. expressed his appreciation for the unwavering guidance and support of Finance Secretary Ralph G. Recto and the entire DOF team.
Lumagui highlighted the instrumental contribution of the department, stating, “The guidance and support of the DOF are one of the reasons for the success of our higher collections and successful enforcement activities.”
The BIR chief’s comments came after a recent meeting last May 15, where he, alongside Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio, engaged in discussions with Recto.
Accompanying Recto were several key DOF officials, including Finance Undersecretaries Maria Luwalhati C. Dorotan-Tiuseco, Charlito Martin R. Mendoza, and Rolando G. Tungpalan.
The meeting was also attended by Finance Assistant Secretaries Gerald Alan A. Quebral, Dakila Elteen M. Napao, and Karlo Fermin S. Adriano.
Lumagui said the meeting held at the DOF headquarters primarily focused on the programs of the BIR and the Bureau of Customs, the government's two main revenue-generating agencies.
“Thank you again, Sec. Ralph G. Recto and the entire DOF, for your unwavering support to the BIR. Rest assured of the full cooperation of the BIR with the fellow employees of the BOC and DOF!” Lumagui concluded.
As of March 2024, the BIR and BOC collected P810.7 billion in revenue, a 13 percent growth compared to P719 billion in the same period last year.
