Young Focus was a non-government organization that partnered with the graduating class of Mapua Interior Design 10 for a community project aimed at transforming spaces into inspiring environments fostering creativity and a sense of belonging. Together, they empowered children and youth through education, providing them with safe and supportive spaces to realize their dreams and capabilities in the heart of Dayao, Tondo, Manila. This collaboration demonstrated the powerful impact of design in uplifting communities and creating opportunities for a brighter future.

As the senior class explored the organization’s building learning spaces, they didn't just see ordinary rooms, but rather an investment in education and a place where their creativity could be expressed and fulfilled. With this, the life-changing power of education and design converged, bringing more hope for the students and their families.

In one spirit, Young Focus and the Mapua Interior Design graduating class created "Kite Skies: Community Project 2024.” Stemming from the Young Focus organization's old logo—the class aimed to convey the organization's success by inspiring others to reach for their dreams. The design concept was inspired by an image of a person holding a kite, reaching for the limitless sky.

The kite, a seemingly simple toy, held a much deeper meaning for the graduating class. It symbolized dreams, freedom, and imagination, which aligned perfectly with the organization's mission and vision. The project highlighted the importance of education and provided hope for individuals to pursue their aspirations. Grateful to the Interior Design program at Mapua University, the class had developed an educational experience that made everyone's dreams possible.

Interior Design is a remarkable profession that involves solving complex problems related to the built environment. By implementing innovative design strategies, interior designers targeted to bring convenience and comfort to people's lives. The project, undertaken by the graduating class, had pushed the boundaries of creativity, and resulted in a limitless environment that went beyond the realm of possibilities—encouraging its users to reach their full potential by providing a well-designed space for their use. Living under the Sky unveiled creativity, increased engagement, and created a sense of wonder and curiosity, which was ideal for a learning center. "Kite Skies" represented more than just a physical space—it showcased empowerment and positive change for youth.

This was a story where imagination took flight like a kite in the sky. Driven by curiosity and discovery, without losing the art of enjoyment and education–it served as a key, a way out of poverty, a life well-lived, and a path to a brighter future.

With Mapua University's Interior Design program, the class had created a space with curiosity, engagement, and wonder – elements for a vibrant learning environment, through contributions from Boysen, Landlite, Cedarside Industries INC., and Goodrich Global who shared the same vision with the organization and interior design students–collaboration and positive change. Boysen, whose quality paint became pivotal in bringing the students’ ideas to life; Landlite, whose lighting solutions with their sleek design illuminated the project’s vision; Cedarside Industries INC., whose blinds may seem like a small detail but helped in shaping light, privacy, and style; and finally, Goodrich Global, whose quality wallpaper and aesthetic patterns enriched the environment.

More than providing the community project with materials, these partners also shared in the project’s vision of fostering empowerment and transformation of lives through design. Their commitment to lending a hand and support went beyond the physical aspects of the project and construction; it was a symbol of their commitment to building brighter futures and promoting a way of learning and living that spoke to the soul and well-being of the students, including their instructors.

With the Interior Design program at Mapua University, the students creating the "Kite Skies: Community Project 2024" had partnered with Boysen, Landlite, Cedarside Industries INC., and Goodrich Global; they not only provided materials but also shared the project's vision of empowerment and positive change for the youth. Through interior design, the students had crafted a space that was more than just functionality; it also aimed to light imagination, inspire learning, and create hope for the children. "Kite Skies" was more than just a place. It was a sail that caught the winds of imagination, carrying with it the promise of a brighter future for all.
