Wanky confident of staying on at PRO-6


ILOILO CITY – Police Brig. Gen.  Jack Wanky is confident that he will remain as Police Regional Office-6 (Western Visayas) police chief.

“As far as I’m concerned, I’m doing my job correctly,” said Wanky.

Wanky said he is unaware that he is being pushed out from PRO-6. “We might have come across those who did not like our campaign against illegal drugs or illegal gambling,” said Wanky during a press conference on Wednesday, May 15.

He is on his third month as police chief for the region comprised of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.

On top of Wanky’s accomplishment is the campaign against illegal drugs. Approximately P121.9 million worth of shabu was confiscated from 763 drug suspects from February 15 to May 12.

In the campaign against wanted persons, a total of 1,475 were arrested – 241 most wanted persons (MWPs) and 1,234  other wanted persons (OWPs). 

In the campaign against illegal gambling, a total of 1,222 suspects were arrested in 378 operations and P600,000 in bet money was seized.

In the campaign against illegal firearms, 192 persons were arrested in 174 operations, 211 firearms and 31 explosives, were seized, and 825 unlicensed firearms and 106 explosives were surrendered. 

In the campaign against illegal fishing, 626 suspects were arrested in 204 operations. 

In the campaign against illegal logging, 49 were arrested in 37 operations. Police seized hot lumber worth almost P499,000.
