Ship involved in maritime accident found half-submerged in Northern Samar

TACLOBAN CITY – The MV Reina Hosanna, a ship that ran aground in Capul, Northern Samar earlier this year, was discovered half-submerged at Balwharteco Port in Barangay Looc, Allen, Northern Samar, on Tuesday, May 14.

The vessel, owned by Montenegro Shipping, had been successfully towed to Allen just the day before, after it was grounded due to engine failure on February 11 with 91 passengers on board.

The Philippine Coast Guard confirmed that the crew of the MV Reina Hosanna reported the vessel half-submerged while docked at the port. The exact cause of the incident remains undetermined as of posting time.

Upon receiving the report, the CGS Northern Samar responded to the scene to assess the situation and collaborate with the Marine Environmental Protection Unit on potential measures to prevent any oil spillage. No reports of oil spillage or leakage have been reported so far.

Recent incidents involving MV Reina Hosanna have raised concerns about the vessel's safety and the environmental impact of its current state.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing to determine the circumstances leading to the ship's partial submersion at Balwharteco Port.
