Philippine Red Cross taps Cardinal Santos Medical Center to secure country's blood supply
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has entered into a three-year Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Cardinal Santos Medical Center (CSMC) to ensure the availability of safe blood for Filipinos in need.

Under the agreement, the PRC will serve as the blood products provider of CSMC, while the hospital will handle the distribution of blood to those in need.
During the event on Tuesday, May 14, PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Richard “Dick” Gordon described the partnership as a “game-changer” and a “crucial step” toward ensuring continuity and blood security in the Philippines.
“We are elated to have this partnership with one of the biggest hospitals in the country. You will treat people while we will look for blood and bring it to you when you need it,” Gordon said in a statement.
“Through this partnership, I can assure you that you will always have adequate blood supply in your hospital,” he added.
The agreement also stipulates that during emergencies, disasters, or mass casualty incidents, the PRC will deploy Emergency Field Hospitals (EFH) if hospitals become overwhelmed.
Meanwhile, CSMC's member doctors will also be on standby to provide medical care at these PRC field hospitals.
The chairman further encouraged other hospitals to follow suit.
"We can supply blood in every corner of the country because we have blood banks nationwide," he said.
“If every hospital will follow this, then people needing blood don't have to fret while looking for blood,” Gordon added.
