Pasay City, 39 other areas may experience 'dangerous' heat index on May 16


The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said 40 areas, including Pasay City, may still experience "dangerous" heat index on Thursday, May 16.

The heat index in Dagupan City, Pangasinan; CBSUA-Pili, Camarines Sur; and Butuan City, Agusan Del Norte may reach 46°C, while it may reach 45°C in Bacnotan, La Union and Virac (Synop), Catanduanes.

Meanwhile, Cuyo, Palawan; Roxas City, Capiz; Iloilo City, Iloilo; Dumangas, Iloilo; Catarman, Northern Samar; Guiuan, Eastern Samar; and Zamboanga City, Zamboanga Del Sur may experience a 44°C heat index.

PAGASA added that Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; MMSU, Batac, Ilocos Norte; Aparri, Cagayan; Iba, Zambales; Cubi Pt., Subic Bay Olongapo City; Sangley Point, Cavite; Ambulong, Tanauan Batangas; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Legazpi City, Albay; Masbate City, Masbate; Tacloban City, Leyte; Borongan, Eastern Samar; and Dipolog, Zamboanga Del Norte may have a heat index of 44°C.

Meanwhile, a 42°C heat index may be recorded in Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Pasay City, Metro Manila; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; ISU Echague, Isabela; Baler (Radar), Aurora; Casiguran, Aurora; Alabat, Quezon; Coron, Palawan; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Aborlan, Palawan; Daet, Camarines Norte; Siquijor, Siquijor; Catbalogan, Samar; Davao City, Davao Del Sur; and Surigao City, Surigao Del Norte.

With this heat index effect classification, there is a possibility of heat cramps and heat exhaustion, while heat stroke becomes probable with continued exposure.
