Bong Revilla, known for his roles in action-packed films, has once again showcased his versatility as an actor. He was recently honored with the prestigious Comedy Actor of the Year award at the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation’s Box Office Entertainment Awards, a recognition that highlights his comedic prowess.

Besides being the country’s top action star, Bong has been recognized for his projects blending hard action with light and funny moments.

Bong was selected by the board of jurors of Guillermo Foundation in recognition of the high ratings of Walang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis, the TV adaptation of the 90’s movie of the same title where Revilla starred himself.

As the seasoned actor is still recovering from an Achilles tear, he was represented by his wife Rep. Lani Mercado-Revilla and son AGIMAT Partylist Congressman Bryan Revilla in the awarding ceremony.

Bong's latest trophy is an addition to his four Box Office Entertainment Awards for Box Office King from the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation. He was also awarded Best Comedy Actor in the 2001 PMPC Star Awards for TV for his phenomenal sitcom “Idol Ko si Kap”.

“I am deeply honored and grateful to be selected as the Comedy Actor of the Year in this esteemed Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation's Box Office Entertainment Awards. I am truly humbled. Nagpapasalamat po ako sa lahat ng sumuporta sa Walang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis sa nakalipas na dalawang season. Ang award na ito ay hindi lang para sa akin kundi para sa lahat ng tumawa, nakiiyak, at nakisaya,” Bong said in a pre-recorded video message played during the event.

Bong, who played “Major Bartolome Reynaldo,” more iconically known as “Tolome,” tickled the hearts of its many viewers. With his funny, strong but submissive character, especially to his wife “Gloria,” played by Beauty Gonzales, many were hooked on the series.

Walang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis began airing on GMA last June 2023 for its first season. Due to its consistently high ratings, the show was renewed for another season last February and concluded just last week.

“My gratitude, of course, sa mga kasama kong mahuhusay na artista at sa lahat ng production crew na kung di dahil sa kanila ay di magiging posible ang WMNP, maraming maraming salamat po!  Let's continue spreading laughter and positivity wherever we go! Mabuhay ang Guillermo! Mabuhay ang Philippine Entertainment!,” Bong said.

This developed as Bong, on the advice of his doctor, filed an indefinite medical leave from the Senate plenary session on May 14.

On April 24, Bong had surgery to repair a partial tear in his Achilles tendon. Bong, recovering from an injury, is unable to attend Senate sessions physically but can participate virtually.
