5 dead in three-vehicle crash in Quezon

LOPEZ, Quezon – Five persons were killed in a collision involving three vehicles on the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Canda Ilaya here before dawn on Wednesday, May 15.

Police identified the fatalities as Cheska Brin, 28, of Antipolo City, Rizal; minors Jasper and Jarid, Riza Brin, 25, and Jaymar Lunas, also from Antipolo City.

Investigation said a Fuso truck driven by Ernesto Alberto, 51, hit the victims’ three-wheeled vehicle or tuk-tuk riven by Julius Brin.

The victims’ vehicle caught fire and a tailing passenger bus also hit the two vehicles and burned as a result.

The fatalities died on the spot and Julius, and tuk-tuk passengers minors Juli and Janella and Leopoldo Brin, 57, were injured and taken to a hospital.

Lunas was taken to a hospital where he died.

Alberto was arrested by the police and faces reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicides, multiple physical injuries, and damage to property cases.
