The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday, May 15, that the intense heat reached a “dangerous” level in 39 areas in the country.
PAGASA recorded the highest index of the day in Butuan City, Agusan Del Norte at 47 degrees Celsius (°C), followed by Dagupan City, Pangasinan and CBSUA-Pili, Camarines Sur at 46°C.
A heat index of 45°C was logged in Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Virac, Catanduanes; Dumagas, Iloilo; Guiuan, Eastern Samar; and Dipolog, Zamboanga Del Norte.
The heat index reached 44°C in Aparri, Cagayan; Iba, Zambales; Ambulong, Tanauan Batangas; Cuyo, Palawan; and Roxas City, Capiz.
It was followed by a heat index of 43°C in Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Pasay City, Metro Manila; Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; MMSU, Batac, Ilocos Norte; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Clark Airport (DMIA), Pampanga; Casiguran, Aurora; Alabat, Quezon; Legazpi City, Albay; Masbate City, Masbate; Catarman, Northern Samar; Tacloban City, Leyte; Borongan, Eastern Samar; Zamboanga City, Zamboanga Del Sur; and Davao City, Davao Del Sur.
It also recorded a heat index of 42°C in ISU Echague, Isabela; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Daet, Camarines Norte; Juban, Sorsogon; Siquijor, Siquijor; Catbalogan, Samar; and Surigao City, Surigao Del Norte.
