1-Rider Party-list Rep. Rodge Gutierrez gave a gentle reminder to the Senate regarding its unfinished Legislative Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) bills Tuesday, May 14, even as one of its members intends to hold another hearing on the "PDEA leaks" issue.
"Nakakadismaya (It's disappointing) because again, in comparison, we have a lot of pending bills. Kami po dito sa House tapos na po sa LEDAC priority (We in the House are done with our LEDAC priorities). We’re waiting on our counterparts [from the] Senate," Gutierrez said in a press conference.
Gutierrez, an assistant minority leader in the House of Representatives, shared the opinion of his colleagues that the Senator Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa-led inquiry, which placed dismissed Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) intelligence officer Jonathan Morales in the limelight, had been a huge waste of time.
"Ito iyong nakakapagtaka, tapos na po iyong LEDAC priorities natin, sila hindi pa (What's perplexing is we're finished with our LEDAC priorities and they aren't), yet we have these third hearing going on fourth hearing [where] there are like six Senators attending," the party-list solon said of the particular Senate probe.
"Paano po iyong mga LEDAC priorities natin doon (What about our LEDAC priorities there)? Are they currently being discuss? Is it gonna go anywhere? Paano na po iyong economic reform natin? Parang wala pong nangyayari (What about our economic reforms? It's like nothing is happening)," he said.
It was back in March before the Lenten break that the House announced the approval on third and final reading of all 20 priority measures outlined by President Marcos and LEDAC.
House Speaker Martin Romualdez said the chamber finished the feat three months ahead of schedule.
Comgress will adjourn sine die on May 22, which h means the Senate only has a few session days left to get legislative work done.
"I think it's our comment here (House) as much as possible we would urge...[the] Senate to, we’ve always urging them to give priority dito sa LEDAC natin and doon sa economic revisions, all the more now in light of hearing po na parang dead end na po," Gutierrez said.
