Heat index in 35 areas reached 'danger' level on May 14

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the intense heat reached a "dangerous" level in 35 areas on Tuesday, May 14.
PAGASA reported that Dagupan City, Pangasinan recorded the highest heat index of the day at 49 degrees Celsius (°C), followed by Aparri, Cagayan and Roxas City, Capiz at 47°C.
The heat index reached 46°C in Bacnotan, La Union and Virac, Catanduanes; and 45°C in NAIA, Pasay City; Alabat, Quezon; and Butuan City, Agusan del Sur.
A heat index of 44°C was logged in Mariano Marcos State University Station, Batac, Ilocos Norte; Iba, Zambales; Sangley Point, Cavite; Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas; Dumangas, Iloilo; Catarman, Northern Samar; and Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur.
Meanwhile, it reached 43°C in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Coron, Palawan; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Central Bicol State University of Agriculture Station, Pili, Camarines Sur; Iloilo City, Iloilo; Maasin, Southern Leyte; and Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte.
The heat index reached 42°C in Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; Baler, Aurora; Cubi Pt. Subic Bay, Olongapo City; Calapan, Oriental Mindoro; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Daet, Camarines Norte; Legazpi City, Albay; Masbate City, Masbate; Mambusao, Capiz; Catbalogan, Samar; Guiuan, Eastern Samar; and Davao City, Davao del Sur.
PAGASA warned that heat indices between 42 degrees Celsius (°C) and 51°C indicate “danger,” as "heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely," and "heat stroke is probable with continued activity."
The heat index measures how hot it feels when relative humidity is combined with the actual air temperature.

On April 28, Iba, Zambales recorded the highest heat index so far this year at 53°C.
PAGASA said a heat index above 52°C indicates “extreme danger” as “heat stroke is imminent.”
