Hong Kong-based Filipino cue artist Robbie Capito overcame huge pressure and pulled off an upset against seasoned rival Mieszko Fortunski of Poland, 13-10, to reign supreme in the 2024 UK 9-Ball Open Pool Championship at the Telford International Centre in the United Kingdom over the weekend.

The 22-year-old Capito outsmarted his opponent in the race-to-13 collision to claim his first-ever international title and bag the champion's purse of $30,000 (around P1.7 million).
Prior to his finals win, Capito beat Lithuanian Pijus Labutis (11-9) in the semifinals while he escaped inaugural edition champion Joshua Filler (10-9) of Germany in their quarters clash.
Capito, who honed his skills in the Philippines, outlasted this year’s World Pool Masters titleholder American Fedor Gorst (10-8) and Cyprus’ Antonis Brabin in the last 16 and 32, respectively. In the last 64, he booted out Lo Ho Sum, 10-4.
Other PH bets in Carlo Biado, Jeffrey Ignacio, Jefrey Roda, Bernie Regalario, Anton Raga and James Aranas were unfortunate as they succumbed in their respective foes in the last 32.
After seeing themselves tied at 4-all, Capito shifted his gears and took three straight racks to seize a 7-4 lead.
With Capito smelling blood after taking a 9-5 advantage, Fortunski showed off his veteran poise and trimmed it down to two, 10-8.
